Take a minute to read about our teachers. They are both highly qualified in teaching private Bass lessons. They are both open to taking on both adults and children of any skill level.

Carter Smith – Upright / Electric Bass

CSmith_BassCarter Smith graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, earning degrees in Classical Bass Performance and Music Education. While at CU Carter pursued a variety of musical styles, performing  with large groups such as the Symphony Orchestra as well as small jazz combos, bluegrass groups, and many more. He is currently the Associate Principle Bass for the Boulder Symphony.

Carter began playing Electric Bass at a young age, inspired by Rock N' Roll and Jazz players. As his abilities on the instrument grew, so did his interest in the versatility of the Electric Bass; eventually leading Carter to his classical studies at CU.  Carter became the electric bassist for CU's West African Highlife Ensemble. This ensemble allowed Carter to deepen his understanding of the Electric Bass, and even provided him the opprotunity to travel to Ghana to continue studying Highlife Electric Bass. Most recently, Carter has been recording and performing with a Denver-based Rock/Punk band Left Foot Green.

Carter believes that learning any music is an essential part of the human spirit. As a teacher he is open and encouraging to his students musical pursuits. When working with young learners, Carter believes it is best to use a combination of written and unwritten exercises as well as focusing on strengthening connections between the aural and the tactile perceptions. Carter likes to work with any style/genre of music, because he believes that any may serve as a vessel for learning as long as one keeps an open mind and ear.
