This youth music program has been designed to get kids playing together in a group, while making new friends and fostering the relationship between music and fun. YAME is an acoustic based music program that takes a blend of music genres, which include, folk/americana, bluegrass, modern pop music, rock n' roll, and beyond. The idea is to make song selections that are enjoyable to the kids and translate them into an acoustic setting. One of the main goals of the class is to teach kids that music is an enjoyable life experience that can be shared with others. Each song is a new puzzle that can be solved with practice and support from their group. We have found that kids stay engaged, in making music, for longer periods of time when they are playing with others, and are in an environment that allows them to express themselves creatively within the confines of a group setting.

We have two classes to choose from (please read below)

YAME 101 | Beginner Class

This class has been designed for brand new and beginner students. (little to no experience required)

Students may choose from the following instruments: Guitar, Bass (electric or Upright), Mandolin, Banjo, or Violin. We are open to other instruments as well. It is required to have an instrument to take classes, lessons, and especially for practicing. If you don’t have an instrument you may rent, buy, or borrow one. Please contact us if you need assistance with this process. info@harmonymusichouse.com

Yame 101 is a combo class that includes a weekly 45 minute group class, and a weekly 30 minute private 1-on-1 lesson. This class will give students the opportunity to start playing music in a group right away. The instructor will choose, with some assistance from the students, a few songs to start working on. Song selections will be chosen based on their familiarity with the students, and easy of play for beginner students. Each week the students will get private instruction on their chosen instrument to learn the songs. Those songs will then be reviewed in a group setting. The students will work on sharing a common beat (staying on tempo), learning to listen to the other instruments that are playing around them, understanding the role of their instrument in a group setting, learning simples melodies and chords, and learning that singing is a fun experience for all, even if you aren’t a professional singer. As the weeks goes on the class will become more and more familiar with the song selections, and we will continue to refine the song and technique until the end of the session.
